Three in-person writing workshops:

1) Steampunk Creative Writing

Pre-Comic-Con: attendees will participate in two mind-bending writing excursions from the Now Write! Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror anthology:

The Secret Room: a surreal group creative writing exercise designed to activate your imagination, from famed surrealist Aimee Bender, author of The Girl in the Flammable Skirt and The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake.

Giving Sentience to Inanimate Objects: using provided objects, or something of your own, you will follow steps to create your own unique story. Contributed by former film exec, writer/producer, artist and script consultant, Devo Cutler.

An empowering screenwriting workshop with writing exercises to help you develop your own ideas for a screenplay.

Learn some of the crucial elements of dramatic and cinematic storytelling, as well as how to avoid some of the common pitfalls that make screenplays less effective than they could be.

Many of the key principles we explore apply to other forms of dramatic narrative, such as a play or modern novel.

All are welcome. This will be a safe, encouraging, creative environment for beginning to advanced screenwriters.

Instructor: Laurie Lamson

With a film/video production background, Laurie’s specialty is scriptwriting. She has written well over 100 produced film, video and audio scripts, from corporate promos to a multi-award-winning feature film. She has also directed internationally well-received short films and videos, including Eternal Waltz, a metaphysical romance with thirteen honors.

With a passion for empowering creativity, Laurie has led numerous workshops, hosted telecons for the International Screenwriters’ Association for four years, and was author/editor or co-author/editor of three anthologies in the popular creative writing series. She provides honest and encouraging story consulting and book editing services to fellow writers.
