This is the largest gathering of Southern California steampunks, with an entire weekend of workshops, special presentations, vendors, a Maker Room, the Saturday Night Ball, and much more!

WHEN: Thursday September 29 through Sunday, October 2, 2022

WHERE: Gaslight Steampunk Expo will be held at the San Diego Marriott Mission Valley, 8757 Rio San Diego Drive, San Diego, CA 92108.

WHO: The event is sponsored by the San Diego Speculative Fiction Society, Inc. (President: Anastasia Hunter.)

WHO AM I: Laurie Lamson, a local writer and story/script consultant who’s presenting two creative writing workshops at the Expo, taken from an anthology in the popular Now Write! series which I authored/edited: Now Write! Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror.

Friday 9/30, 4:30pm-5:30pm – “Giving Sentience to Inanimate Objects” Writing Exercise  Choose from provided objects or use something of your own to develop ghost story ideas and explore your unique creativity. (Based on the original exercise contributed to the Now Write! Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror creative writing anthology by former film exec, writer/producer and script consultant, Devorah Cutler-Rubenstein.)

Sunday 10/2, 2pm-3:30pm – “The Secret Room” Writing Exercise – Take part in a bizarre group creative writing exercise designed to activate your imagination and lead you down a ghostly path. (Based on the original exercise contributed to Now Write! Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror by the famed surrealist author Aimee Bender – The Girl in the Flammable Skirt, The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake and much more published work.)

I’m also offering a follow-up Steampunk + Spec Genre Writing on-line workshop: every Wednesday evening in October, unleash your creativity with spooky, creepy, mind-bending and surreal creative writing exercises from Now Write! Science Fiction Fantasy, and Horror and other Now Write! books, with a virtual Halloween reading & costume contest party on Sunday, October 30.
